The Cuban Missile Crisis of October 1962 was a nuclear conflict between the USA and the Soviet Union. Background : It was, in fact, a cold war between socialism and capitalism. Thus, America's attempt to remove Fidel Castro from power in Cuba failed. Nikita Khrushchev, the Soviet leader, and Fidel Castro, the leader of Cuba, came to an agreement to station Soviet nuclear weapons in Cuba to deter any future American invasion.
